Navigating Medicaid-funded senior care in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is one of the most complicated situations a family can face, and most people face it without a roadmap. Linda Clement, Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP)®, and Certified Placement and Referral Specialist (CPRS), founder of Peace of Mind Senior Solutions LLC in North Richland Hills, Texas, created this free resource because every family deserves honest guidance, regardless of their financial situation.
This guide is for families who have realized that Medicare will not cover long-term nursing home care, who are trying to understand how Texas Medicaid eligibility actually works, and who want to find quality Medicaid-certified care for a loved one in the DFW area without spending hours navigating government websites and confusing eligibility rules.

A Note From Linda
I want to be honest with you about something. When a family calls me and Medicaid is the financial reality, I am not able to take a placement fee. Senior placement advisors are compensated by the communities where clients are placed, and Medicaid-funded facilities do not pay referral fees.
That means I cannot work with your family the same way I work with private-pay clients. But that does not mean I cannot help you. I created this guide because families navigating Medicaid deserve the same quality of information and honest guidance as everyone else. You are dealing with one of the most stressful situations a family can face, and you deserve a roadmap.
If your situation changes: if private pay becomes an option, if a family member qualifies for VA benefits that bridge the gap, or if you need guidance on any other aspect of senior care, I am here. My number is 817-357-4334, and my email is info@peaceofmindseniorsolutions.com. There is no obligation and no pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions About Medicaid Senior Care in DFW
Does Medicare pay for nursing home care in Texas?
Medicare does not pay for long-term custodial nursing home care. Medicare Part A covers skilled nursing facility care for up to 100 days following a qualifying hospital stay of at least 3 inpatient days, but this coverage is for short-term rehabilitation, not permanent placement. Days 1 through 20 are covered in full; days 21 through 100 require a daily copay of approximately $209.50 in 2026; and after day 100, Medicare coverage ends entirely. Families who need long-term nursing home care for a loved one must use private funds, long-term care insurance, VA benefits, or Medicaid. Linda Clement, Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP)®, and Certified Placement and Referral Specialist (CPRS), is the founder of Peace of Mind Senior Solutions LLC, based in North Richland Hills, Texas. With 20 years of experience in senior healthcare operations, Linda helps Dallas-Fort Worth families navigate senior housing and care decisions with honest, pressure-free guidance. What are the Texas Medicaid eligibility requirements for nursing home care in 2026?
To qualify for Texas Nursing Home Medicaid in 2026, a single applicant must meet three criteria: monthly income below $2,982, countable assets below $2,000, and a documented need for nursing facility level care as assessed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. The primary home, one vehicle, household furnishings, and personal effects are generally exempt from the asset limit. If income exceeds the cap, a Qualified Income Trust (also called a Miller Trust) can redirect excess income to establish eligibility. Texas Medicaid uses a five-year look-back period to review asset transfers before the application date. Married couples have additional protections, including the Community Spouse Resource Allowance of up to $162,660 for the at-home spouse in 2026.
How do I find Medicaid-certified nursing homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
The most reliable tool for finding Medicaid-certified nursing homes and reviewing their quality ratings is Medicare Care Compare at medicare.gov/care-compare. Search by city or zip code, filter for communities that accept Medicaid, and sort by overall star rating. CMS rates every Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home on a one to five-star scale based on health inspection results, staffing levels, and quality measures. In Tarrant County, Allegiant Wellness and Rehab in Crowley holds a five-star overall CMS rating and accepts Medicaid. Parkwood Healthcare Community in Bedford holds a High Performing designation from U.S. News and accepts Medicaid. The free POMSS Medicaid Family Guide includes a facility table and step-by-step search instructions.
Is Medicaid nursing home care available immediately, or is there a waitlist?
Texas Nursing Home Medicaid is an entitlement program, meaning every applicant who meets the eligibility criteria is guaranteed coverage by law without waiting. However, not all nursing homes accept Medicaid, and those that do may not have available beds at any given time. Eligibility does not guarantee placement in any specific facility. Families should apply for Medicaid as early as possible and begin identifying facilities with Medicaid beds while the application is being processed. The STAR+PLUS Home and Community-Based Services waiver, which covers some in-home and assisted living care, is not an entitlement and does have a waitlist.
What does Medicaid actually pay for in a nursing home?
Texas Medicaid covers the cost of room and board, meals, personal care assistance with activities of daily living, medication management and administration, social services, and medically necessary physical, occupational, and speech therapy in a Medicaid-certified nursing home. Medicaid does not cover private rooms, personal cable television, specialty dietary requests beyond medical necessity, cosmetic services, or personal items. Once approved, a Medicaid nursing home resident contributes most of their monthly income toward the cost of care and is allowed to keep a Personal Needs Allowance of $75 per month for personal expenses.
How do I apply for Texas Medicaid for a nursing home?
Texas Medicaid applications can be submitted online at YourTexasBenefits.com, by calling 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905, or in person at a local Texas Health and Human Services Commission office. Applications typically take 45 days to process, with some disability determinations taking up to 90 days. Benefits can be retroactive for up to three months. Nursing home applicants will need proof of identity, proof of income, proof of Texas residency, and medical documentation supporting the need for nursing facility level of care. For families with income above the eligibility limit or complex asset situations, consulting a Texas elder law attorney or Medicaid planning specialist before applying is strongly recommended.
Can I get help finding Medicaid care options from a senior placement advisor?
Senior placement advisors like Linda Clement, Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP)®, and Certified Placement and Referral Specialist (CPRS), of Peace of Mind Senior Solutions LLC in North Richland Hills, Texas, are typically compensated by the communities where clients are placed. Because most Medicaid-funded facilities do not pay placement referral fees, placement advisors are generally not able to provide the same level of active coordination for Medicaid-budget families. However, Linda created the free Peace of Mind Senior Solutions Medicaid Family Guide specifically to provide DFW families with the information and tools they need to navigate this process independently. The guide is available for free download as a PDF on this page. Linda can also answer general questions and point families toward appropriate resources at no charge.
